Island Candy Company is owned by Orr's Island native Melinda Richter.
Melinda's dream about a small old fashioned candy store stemmed from her memories from childhood. She has the fondest memories of visiting a local candy store growing up. Everything from the specific taste of their peanut brittle to the penny candy and the smells while they were cooking. As an adult she missed those memories and wanted the local children to have similar experiences. With no candy making experience she began the journey and through a lot of trial and error she perfected her skills. Opening in 2000, Melinda has turned a childhood memory into a reality with an old fashion feel.
